Tom Willy recently received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award from the Leawood, Kansas Lions Club. This award is the highest award by the Lions Club International Foundation for humanitarian commitment.
Duncan McQueen is the author of the "Taxation of Exempt Organizations" chapter of the newly released 4th edition of the Missouri Bar Deskbook.
Bob Beachy, Mike Fitzgerald and Mike Joyce have been selected for inclusion in the 2008 edition of Missouri's Super Lawyers! Mindy Ward was selected for inclusion in the 2008 edition of Missouri and Kansas Rising Stars!
Shawn Stogsdill has joined our firm! We are proud to announce that we now have six attorneys at our firm with masters of law degrees in tax or business! Shawn begins his 12th year as an adjunct professor at William Jewell College teaching Constitutional Law.
Mindy Ward will be speaking at the Annual Estate and Trust Institute for the Missouri Bar in September and October (9/5/08 – Springfield; 9/25/08 – Columbia; and 10/3/08 – Kansas City) on the topic of Joint Revocable Trusts. The course description states: "One of the by-products of the higher levels in the federal estate tax exemption is the increased usage of joint revocable trusts by mainstream estate planning attorneys. This presentation covers the basics of the preparation of a joint revocable trust for a married couple in a situation where federal estate taxes are not a concern, as well as covering some of the potential pitfalls when attempting to draft a joint revocable trust for a married couple with a federally taxable estate."
Robert Beachy was appointed to the Surface Water Policy Advisory Committee for the State of Kansas. He will be representing the interests of recreational water users in the formulation of a strategic plan for surface water uses.
Missouri Circuit Court Judge grants new trial on sex crime charge after Mike Joyce and team at VOMER fight Petition for Writ of Habeas Corpus. Circuit Court Judge grants writ on January 18, 2008. The State of Missouri has filed a Petition for Writ of Certiorari asking for review.

Mindy Ward was recently honored by invitation to join the Children’s Mercy Hospital Donald H. Chisholm Planned Giving Council.
In October 2007, Anne Linton Pond was appointed as Vice-Chair of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association- Young Lawyers Section Special Project Committee for 2008. As part of her duties, Anne will aid in planning and implementing special projects for the Young Lawyers Section, primarily in the realm of charitable giving.
